Privacy Policy

Effective date: 13/06/2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Annora (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects personal data when people use Cat Rescue Ireland, our rescue management platform.

Cat Rescue Ireland is used by animal rescues, shelters, foster networks, volunteers, adopters, applicants, and related users to manage rescue operations.

1. Who this policy applies to

This Privacy Policy may apply to:

  • rescue administrators and staff;
  • volunteers and fosterers;
  • adoption applicants and adopters;
  • people submitting enquiries or forms;
  • donors, supporters, or contacts, where relevant;
  • users invited to access the app;
  • people whose information is entered into the app by a rescue or authorised user.

2. Our role and rescue organisations’ role

Depending on how the app is used, we may act as either a data controller or a data processor.

Where we manage user accounts, app security, billing, support, analytics, and platform operations, we may act as a data controller.

Where a rescue organisation uses the app to store and manage its own records about applicants, adopters, fosterers, volunteers, staff, animals, and rescue operations, that rescue organisation is usually the data controller for that information, and we process the data on its behalf as a processor.

If you are unsure who controls your data, contact the rescue organisation you are dealing with or contact us using the details below.

3. Personal data we may collect

We may collect and process the following types of personal data, depending on how the app is used:

  • email address;
  • phone number;
  • account login details;
  • organisation or rescue name;
  • role or permissions within the app.

  • home check notes;
  • volunteer information;
  • fosterer or adopter records;
  • messages, comments, notes, and task history;
  • animal-related records connected to a person;
  • uploaded documents, images, or files.

Technical information

  • IP address;
  • browser and device information;
  • log data;
  • approximate location derived from technical data;
  • authentication records;
  • security and audit logs;
  • cookie or similar technology data, where used.

Payment and billing information

If paid features are used, we or our payment provider may process billing details, subscription information, payment status, and transaction records. We do not intentionally store full payment card details unless expressly stated.

Support communications

If you contact us, we may process your name, contact details, message content, screenshots, files, and related support information.

4. Special category or sensitive information

Rescue organisations and users should avoid entering sensitive personal data unless it is necessary and lawful.

Depending on how a rescue uses the app, records may occasionally include sensitive information, such as health information, safeguarding-related details, accessibility needs, household information, or other sensitive notes.

Where sensitive data is processed, the rescue organisation is responsible for ensuring that there is a valid legal basis and that appropriate safeguards are in place.

5. Children’s data

The app is not intended for unsupervised use by children.

Rescue organisations should not knowingly collect or enter children’s personal data unless it is necessary, lawful, and handled with appropriate safeguards. Where consent is relied on for a child’s personal data, parental or guardian consent may be required.

If you believe a child’s personal data has been entered into the app inappropriately, please contact the relevant rescue organisation or contact us.

6. How we use personal data

We may use personal data to:

  • provide, operate, and maintain the app;
  • create and manage accounts;
  • authenticate users, including through Google or other login providers;
  • allow rescues to manage animals, applications, foster placements, adoption workflows, tasks, and communications;
  • provide customer support;
  • improve app functionality, reliability, and user experience;
  • protect the security and integrity of the app;
  • investigate errors, abuse, fraud, or unauthorised access;
  • manage billing, subscriptions, and administrative records;
  • comply with legal obligations;
  • enforce our Terms of Service.

7. Legal bases for processing

Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Contract: to provide the app and related services.
  • Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, support, and improve the app, provided those interests are not overridden by individual rights.
  • Consent: where consent is required, such as for certain cookies, marketing, or optional features.
  • Legal obligation: where we must process data to comply with the law.
  • Vital interests: in limited cases where processing is necessary to protect someone’s life or safety.

Rescue organisations using the app are responsible for identifying their own legal bases for the personal data they control.

8. How personal data is shared

We may share personal data with:

  • the rescue organisation or account that manages the relevant data;
  • authorised users within that rescue or organisation;
  • service providers who help us operate the app, such as hosting, storage, authentication, email, analytics, support, and payment providers;
  • professional advisers, insurers, or auditors;
  • authorities or regulators where required by law;
  • another organisation if our business or app is transferred, merged, or reorganised.

We do not sell personal data.

9. Third-party services

The app may use third-party services, including login providers such as Google, email providers, hosting services, analytics tools, or payment processors.

Those third-party services may process personal data according to their own privacy policies. Users should review the privacy notices of any third-party services they use.

10. International transfers

Personal data may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, including countries outside the European Economic Area.

Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

11. Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer period is required or allowed by law.

Retention periods may depend on:

  • the type of data;
  • the rescue organisation’s settings or instructions;
  • legal, accounting, or reporting requirements;
  • security and audit needs;
  • whether the account or organisation remains active.

Rescue organisations are responsible for setting appropriate retention practices for the records they manage in the app.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, and disclosure.

However, no system is completely secure. Users and organisations must also take appropriate steps to protect their accounts, including using secure passwords, limiting access permissions, and promptly removing access for users who no longer need it.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may have rights to:

  • access your personal data;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • request deletion of your data;
  • restrict or object to processing;
  • request data portability;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • complain to a data protection authority.

If your data is controlled by a rescue organisation using the app, we may direct your request to that organisation.

14. Marketing communications

We may send service-related messages about the app, such as account, security, billing, or operational notices.

We will only send marketing communications where permitted by law. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us.

15. Cookies and similar technologies

The app may use cookies or similar technologies to:

  • keep users signed in;
  • remember preferences;
  • secure the app;
  • understand app usage;
  • improve performance and reliability.

Where required by law, we will ask for consent before using non-essential cookies.

16. Animal data

The app stores information about animals, including profiles, photos, medical notes, behaviour notes, foster or adoption status, and related rescue records.

Animal data may sometimes be linked to personal data, such as fosterer, adopter, applicant, volunteer, or staff information. Where animal records include personal data, that personal data is handled according to this Privacy Policy.

17. Data entered by rescue organisations

Rescue organisations are responsible for ensuring that data they enter into the app is accurate, lawful, relevant, and not excessive.

Rescue organisations should provide their own privacy notice to applicants, adopters, fosterers, volunteers, staff, and other individuals where required by law.

18. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users.

The updated policy will apply from the effective date shown above.
